Sx Speaking at a briefing in Johannesburg on Thursday, party leader Julius Malema said the fact that white people kept their land for 20 years after democracy is compensation enough. The EFF’s expropriation without compensation policy on land has been highly criticised. It has sparked fears among South Africa’s largely white farming community of losing their livelihoods. Malema on Thursday gave the assurance that agriculture production would not be affected during the reform period. “There’s going to be inclusion of those who were excluded from that land and it is going to be done whether the owners like it or not. Our people will own the land and continue with production.” He says farmers who acquired land after South Africa was colonised and during apartheid have already been compensated. “The 20 years of not taking the land should have been regarded as compensation because the land should have been taken in 1994. So we have compensated them enough.” At the same conference, Malema slammed capitalism and praised Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe for what he called the most successful reform programme in Africa. The firebrand politician is convinced his party will take power in this year’s general elections and says they’re ready to govern.
