Maroela Media publication confirm that Lazlow Bercsény, 87, has died
from his injuries when he and wife Carol Bercsényi (in her 70s) were
attacked by five ‘armed persons’ on Saturday-evening around 10h00 on
their smallholding in the Bon Accord near Pretoria. Mr Bercsény,
reported as ‘being so frail you could have blown him over’, died on
Sunday-morning at around 05h00 from his injuries. “Lawlow was attacked
with an axe,’ confirmed Afriforum spokeswoman Tarien Cooks. The local
community-policing spokesman said this was the third attack in this
smallholdings region north of Pretoria since Tuesday during which axes
were used. In the previous two attacks at the Honingkrans area, the two
couples who were attacked did not sustain serious injuries. Ian Botha, a
family friend, told Maroela Media that ‘they could have blown oom
Lazlow down he was so frail.’
Mr Botha said that wife Carol has to undergo surgery after she was attacked with a shovel. She was badly injured to her jaw and an arm and was also cut across the face. She is ‘still not aware of her husband’s death’.
The couple were rushed to the mediclinic after the attack.
